:: September 3D Artist of the Month- Ian Connors! ::

Ian Connors is a senior in the Ceramics Program at UW-Milwaukee.  All of the work on display has been fired atmospherically to cone ten, including a salt-firing from 2009, a wood/salt-firing from 2011, and a wood-fire from 2012.




 
 



Ian is also the Ceramics Lead at our Centre. You can check out more of his work, some of which is for sale, in our display case!

If you're interested in learning how to create beautiful pieces like these, Ian will be teaching a Beginning Pottery Wheel class this fall. The class will begin on Thursday, September 27th, and will continue every Thursday through October 25th from 6-8pm! There is still time to call or stop by the Craft Centre to sign up!

Can't afford the Adobe suite? Don't worry, we've got you covered!






















This area can be used for Photo Editing, Digital Art Projects and Negative scanning! 

We have Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and more available for all your photo editing and graphic design needs. 

Of course the use of this space is FREE for UWM students!






















We do ask that you save and back up EVERYTHING personally to a jump drive, Pantherfile or email. Anything left on the computers will be deleted.

Internet access on these computers should be used for Photo Editing and Digital Art projects only.

Architectural Terra Cotta
Date: Sundays, September 23 – October 21

Do you love early Milwaukee’s architecture? Well, let’s learn how those historic ceramic tiles were produced! Come and explore Milwaukee’s architectural history as we learn the processes involved in creating ceramics for building design. These tiles can be used for interior and exterior home installations.

Introduction to Bookmaking
Date: Thursdays, October 25 – November 29
Time: 6:30pm – 9:00pm
In today’s world, the computer has released the book from its sole duty as tomes of information. In this five-week course, students will explore the creative potential of the book as an art form! This class will encourage the investigation of the fundamental concepts of the book as an artistic medium; as well as teach the basic techniques needed to create artist books. Class will not be held November 22nd.

Dyeing with Natural Plant Dyes
Date: Saturday, November 10 & Sunday, November 11
Time: 12:30pm – 2:30pm
This 2–day workshop will introduce students to the art of dyeing through the use of natural plant dyes! Students will learn ways to dye fabric in a variety of colors without using toxins! Students will also have the option of adding embellishments and screenprinting the beautifully colored fabrics to create one of a kind home décor or accessories!

Pinhole Photography
Mondays, June 18th - July 16th
5:30pm - 8:00pm
Bummed that you can't afford a new camera this summer? Pinhole photography offers the opportunity to construct photographic cameras out of found objects and materials. During this course we will make cameras out of everything from tiny matchboxes to a full size minivan! Get ready to spend some time outdoors experimenting.

Repurpose Furniture with Mosaics
Wednesday, August 1 and Thursday, August 2
5:00pm – 7:30pm
During this two day workshop learn how to repurpose furniture through the art of glass mosaics! This unique workshop includes instruction on cutting glass, creating designs specific to each item and grouting. Feel free to bring in any small to medium item you find thrifting or have lying around the house. While choosing your item keep in mind that textured pieces cannot be covered.
